Decide to change- Ten Steps To Creating Unstoppable Momentum!

It’s time to decide to change an area of your life- Today!

I know you are ready.

I also know that until now, despite your best efforts, you have not been successful in creating unstoppable momentum and following through.

Because well….

  • Life interfered.
  • You made excuses about why you could not continue on.
  • Fear or rejection reared its evil head.
  • Self-doubt stopped you dead in your tracks.
  • It seemed like too much work.

So, you decided instead to convince yourself that leading the same old life, with the same old routines, complaining to the same old people, about the same old problems is better than taking the bull by the horns and initiating change.

Because, you’ve convinced yourself, stepping out of your comfort zone “is too much work” and “seems scary” and you just “don’t know where to begin.”

Sound familiar?

The Ten Steps To Creating Unstoppable Momentum!

  1. Decide to Change: Know your outcome.

If you truly want change- you’ve got to get some clarity here- what exactly do you want?

What is your end goal? Figure out exactly what you want to achieve and write it out in detail! How much of it do you want? By when do you want to have this outcome?

What do I really want? What is my end goal? What exactly are the results I desire

2. Decide to Change: Know your WHY.

Make sure you get crystal clear about why you want to go after this outcome. Because if you don’t, you will make excuses (about how difficult it is, how time consuming it is, how you’ve tried in the past and it didn’t work, etc.) and give up.

Why must I have this result in my life? What is my motivation?

What kind of person will I become if I have this result in my life? What will change as a result of my actions in my personal and professional life?

3. Decide to Change: Just make the decision to do so.

Commit to achieving this result. Make a pinky-promise to yourself that you will do whatever it takes to achieve this result. If you are finding this step difficult I challenge you to think of two decisions you made in your life that positively shaped your life. How did they change your life? What was it that got you to finally decide? Call upon that strength- the ability to actually decide and commit to something and follow through with it.

Write one decision you have been putting off which, if you committed to making it now, would transform your life and help you achieve the result you so deeply desire.

4. Decide to Change: Take action!

What specific actions do I need to take RIGHT NOW, TODAY to get the ball rolling?

5. Decide to Change: Create a new habit.

You have many habits in your life- some serve you well, whilst others do not. (Morning/evening routines, how you choose to commute to work, what you watch on tv, brushing your teeth, etc.)

Spend some time creating one new habit that will help you achieve your goal.

Need help creating that habit? Harvard Business Review explains what it takes to create a habit.

And listen ladies, be realistic with yourself. Commit to a habit that you will ACTUALLY follow through with! That may mean that you need to simplify the habit. Ex: If committing to running every single day is not in the cards – don’t commit to that. Commit to running 1-2 times a week. If applying to a new job every day is too overwhelming, decide to apply to one new job a week.

Need help resetting your mindset so that you actually get up and follow through with your habit? I’ve got the perfect hack for you here!

What ONE new habit do I need to create, and commit to executing EVERY SINGLE DAY to get me closer to my outcome? (Focus on creating only ONE new habit!)

6. Decide to Change: Keep track of your progress.

Notice what results you are getting from the action you are taking. Are you seeing the results you want to see? If not, you need to consider changing your habits or change your approach.

7. Decide to Change: Identify the roadblocks.

Life will always interfere. Your child suddenly has a dental emergency, or the pet ate something it shouldn’t have, your work schedule changes unexpectedly or the babysitter decided to fly to an island for a week with her boyfriend. Whatever it is- make sure you know how to commit to your habit- DESPITE these roadblocks.

8. Decide to Change: Find a role model

Find someone who has already gotten the results you want. This helps you to see that getting this kind of outcome is actually possible. Ask around or do some research online. Once you find a role model, mirror the steps that person has been taking, their routines, their habits and their success tools. Take the same steps that person has been taking and you too will get similar results!

Jot down one or two people who could be a good role model for you, or where you think you could start researching where to find such role models. Remember, you are looking for a person who has already created the success you want to experience.

9. Decide to Change: Reward yourself!

Make sure you reward yourself for staying on track and sticking to your promises.

What will I reward myself with weekly or monthly for staying committed to this outcome?

10. Decide to Change: Find an accountability partner.

Find a buddy to hold you accountable to this outcome. Tell your spouse, friend, coach- anyone! Research shows that you are much more likely to achieve your goal if you have an accountability partner. So, go on, find someone to help you through the process!
