Feeling Unmotivated? Five steps to take control NOW!

Feeling like you are in a slump? Unmotivated?

Have a few projects in the pipeline that you just cannot get going?

Feeling a bit paralyzed or fearful?

Is your imposter syndrome kicking in?

Lost your creativity and will to accomplish what you want to?

You are not alone.

What to do?

Here are five strategies within your control to escape the slump and finally get motivated!

MOVE.PinkTigerCoaching 1

1.     MOVE IT!

When was the last time you actually moved around? I mean, really moved around?

Get up, girlfriend and exercise, walk, run or Peloton-it!

Generate energy in your body for 20 minutes every day for the next 2 weeks. Commit to it.

Why? Exercise and movement changes your biochemistry. Research shows that moving truly changes how we feel and how focused and motivated we are. It also turns up the levels of creativity in our bodies and helps us to think of new ideas.

This is not just wishing and praying- this is science-backed research.

So, how could you commit to moving your body consistently and with intensity? If you commit to this, you will start to feel differently. I pinky-promise. And once you start feeling different in your body, your motivation will change. You will also give your brain some time to come up with new ideas.

I challenge you-  starting tomorrow—to pencil in 20 minutes – or more— in your schedule/diary and MOVE IT! You can thank me later when you are feeling fabulous, creative and motivated.

Want to move with a class online? Kinrgy is an amazing place to start– movement for the mind, body and soul!

Still unmotivated? Need help waking up early and strapping on those sneakers? Here is a wonderful strategy developed by Mel Robbins to help you push through your excuses and just do it! Listen Here!

2.     ADJUST YOUR TIMELINE.

Ask yourself: Is the timeline I have set out to accomplish this goal or project realistic?

Consider creating a deadline or timeline that is reasonable and achievable whilst still keeping in mind your current commitments and busy schedule. Once you do this, you will hopefully feel more motivated to start- and finish- your project.

Setting SMART Goals is a great place to start. Here is a great article from Harvard University on how to set SMART goals.

3.    RUN YOUR OWN RACE.

Ask yourself: What is the reason I am putting so much pressure on myself to get this project done or goal accomplished? What is the rush?

We all run races. But you need to ask yourself- Am I running your race whilst comparing myself to everyone else? Do I secretly think I need to hurry up and beat out someone else?

Whatever your reason may be, please remind yourself that the only race you should be running in is YOUR race. Focus on staying in your lane and running your own race.

4.     PRIORITIZE

Ask yourself: What is the most important project I want to focus on right now?

Remember, we tend to lose motivation and interest in many of our projects and goals because we are not clear about our reason for starting in the first place. We instead try to accomplish 1,374 tasks and projects at the same time and then complain that we aren’t motivated to complete the few projects/goals that actually mean something to us.

May I remind you that you are not a machine! You need to prioritize. If you do not, you will start to feel unmotivated and you will start heading down the path to burn out.

Once you prioritise, focus on creating a plan that is effective and detailed.

5. GET CRYSTAL CLEAR!

Getting crystal clear as to WHY you want to focus on a project is crucial! The WHY will energise you and drive you forward.

For example:

“I want to find a new job” – Why?“Because I want to make more money.”This isn’t a great “why.”

However- “I want to find a new job that empowers me because I want to help more women and I want to have the extra funds to book fabulous beach vacations. I really deserve some time off in the sun with my girlfriends!” is a much stronger why.

Find a “why” that will inspire, motivate and empower you to get out of bed in the morning!

Remember: AMBIGUITY IS THE ENEMY OF EXECUTION!

If you are still stuck, listen to my video “What Do You Really Want?” and download my pdf and get to work asap! As Tony Robbins always says “When would NOW be a good time?”

I hope you can use one of these strategies to break the cycle of feeling unmotivated.

I believe in you and I know you have what it takes to get out of the slump and get started.

Clarity, motivation, focus and drive are waiting for you on the other side- so put one of these strategies into practice and get going. I’m here cheering you on!

Here’s to your success,

Alexandra
